The plants require three starting material for photosynthesis viz. water, sunlight and carbon dioxide. The water is absorbed by the roots of the plant. The water from roots through xylem reaches the site of photosynthesis.
Carbon dioxide is taken by plants through stomata. Sun is the source of sunlight for plants.
