Bastar is located on the southernmost part of Chhattisgarh. to its North is the Chhattisgarh plain and to its south is Godavari plains.

1) The local communities believed that their land was given by Earth and in return they took care of it. Other then the Earth they believed in river spirits , mountain spirits , etc

2) all villages knew their village boundaries and took care of the forests and land inside their boundaries.

3) Some villages engaged watchmen for their village lands.

4) If the people want some wood from other villages , they had to pay a small fee called DAND or MAN.

5) Every year there was a meeting of village head men to discuss the issues of concerns.
