In 1856b Lord Canning announced that after the death of Bahadur Shah his successors would not be allowed to use the imperial titles and dignities with their names, this announcement affected adversely the Mughal Dynasty in India.

In 1856, the British officer Lord cunning made an announcement which deeply affected the Mughals dynasty in India.  

Lord Cunning announced that after the death of Bahadur Shah his successor will not be allowed to use the imperial titles and all will be known just as a mere prince. He also stated that no one his successor will use dignities with their name.

This announcement affected the Mughals and then after Zeenat Mahal wife of Bahadur Shah started plotting against them. Lord Canning was the Governor General of India.
