Liquids and solids can be referred to as condensed phased because their particles are close together. Liquids and gases flow easily because their particles can move or slide past one another.
Solids and liquids share a common characteristic ie they both have definite volume .
However solids have a definite shape too whereas liquids take the shape of the container in which they are kept.
