Which contains more heat 1 kg of water at 100 degree Celsius and 1 kg of steam at 100 degree Celsius ? Give reason for your answer.

1 kg of steam contains more heat than 1 kg of water because to convert water into steam, the heat used is more than the actual boiling point. We call this extra heat as latent heat. Thus, water contains its own heat but steam contains its own heat as well as the latent heat.

540 calories of heat is required to convert 1kg water at 100°C to steam at 100°C. Steam therefore has an extra heat stored in it. This is the reason we get more severe burns due to steam than boiling water.
