Vascular plants(from Latinvasculum: duct), also known astracheophytes(from the equivalent Greek termtrachea) and also ashigher plants, form a large group of plants (c.308,312 accepted known species[5]) that are defined as thoseland plantsthat havelignifiedtissues(thexylem) for conductingwaterand minerals throughout the plant. They also have a specialized non-lignified tissue (thephloem) to conduct products ofphotosynthesis. Vascular plants include theclubmosses,horsetails,ferns,gymnosperms(includingconifers) andangiosperms(flowering plants).
