Generally hydrogen gas is liberated when an acid reacts with an active metal.
E.g.
- Zn + 2HCl → ZnCl2 + H2↑
- Mg + 2HCl → MgCl2 + H2↑
- Fe + 2HCl → FeCl2 + H2↑
- Mg + 2HNO3(cold,dilute) → Mg(NO3)2 + H2↑
- Mn + 2HNO3(cold,dilute) → Mn(NO3)2 + H2↑
- Zn + 2H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + H2↑
- Fe + 2H2SO4 → FeSO4 + H2↑
OBSERVATION: A colourless , odourless games comes out which extinguishes burning splinter with 'pop' sound and burns with a pale blue flame.
Hope this helps :)
