Answer:-

1.5m/s [ Option.C ]

Explanation:-

Given:-

→ Mass of the 1st trolley (m₁) = 1kg

→ Mass of the 2nd trolley (m₂) = 2kg

→ Initial speed of the 1st trolley (u₁) = 3m/s

→ Initial speed of the 2nd trolley (u₂) = 0

[As it was initally at stationary position]

To find:-

→ Combined speed of the trolleys

after collision.

Solution:-

Let their combined speed be v.

It is given that the two trolleys remain together after collision. Hence, their combined speed after collision will

be (m + m)v.

Now, according to Law of Conservation of momentum:-

=> mu + mu = (m + m)v

=> 1×3 + 2×0 = (1 + 2)v

=> 3 + 0 = 2v

=> 3 = 2v

=> v = 3/2

=> v = 1.5m/s

Thus, the combined speed of the trolleys immediately after collision

is 1.5m/s .
