medulla oblongata  controls a variety of functions from sneezing to vomiting. On recieving these stimuli, the medulla oblongata sends neurotransmitters to the glands to produce the saliva.

It contain cardiac, respiratory,vomiting, sneezing centers.

Beside secretion of saliva it performs other functions like breathing, heart rate, controlling sleep cycle, reflexing centers of vomit, cough,sneeze,cardio vascular and vasomotor centers.
