Hi....

Different sections of nephrons are located in different parts of the kidney: The cortex contains the renal corpuscle, proximal, and distal convoluted tubules. The medulla and medullary rays contain the loops of Henle and collecting ducts the more permeable the walls of the collecting duct become and the more water is reabsorbed from the fluid in the nephron into the blood. Thus less water is excreted in the urine, producing a smaller volume ofconcentrated urine.

Maximum concentration occurs at the bottom of the loop. The ascending limb of the nephron loop is impermeable to water, but Na + and Cl – are pumped out into the surrounding fluids by active transport. As fluid travels up the ascending limb, it becomes less and less concentrated because Na + and Cl – are pumped out.
