Safranin stain is used to observe mitochondria in an onion peel. Safranin stain is a pink colour biological stain used in biological experiment. It is used as a counterstain in some staining protocol. This helps in colouring cell nuclei red. It acts as a counterstain in both positive and negative gram stains. It helps in endospores staining. It can also be used for the detection of cartilage, mucin and mast cell granules.
