The State of Oudh ( in modern U.P ) was annexed by the British by removing its ruler Nawab Wajid Ali Shah on the pretext of misgovernancenance.
The Governor General Lord Dalhousie had a keen interest in annexation of Oudh in order to expand British empire. He could not annex it through Doctrine of Lapse as Nawab Waji Ali had many heirs. He also didn't want to annex it directly as Oudh was very loyal to Britishers. So he accused nawab of Misgovernance and oppression and on the same pretext annexed Oudh to East India Company.
