Traditional agriculture, which was the backbone of Goa's economy, providing a source of livelihood to a large number of people, is now rapidly declining. Several factors are responsible for this situation.


Firstly, the farming communities in Goa feel that traditional methods of growing paddy have become very uneconomical due to high labour charges for various agricultural operations.


The problem of high labour costs has been partly resolved by the Directorate of Agriculture by providing subsides for the mechanization of agriculture.
