Answer:

Water diffusion is called osmosis. Oxygen is a small molecule and it's nonpolar, so it easily passes through a cell membrane. Carbon dioxide, the byproduct of cell respiration, is small enough to readily diffuse out of a cell. Small uncharged lipid molecules can pass through the lipid innards of the membrane.

Some substances like carbon dioxide or oxygen can move across the plasma membrane by a process called diffusion.

Diffusion:Movement of substances from higher concentration to lower concentration.

For example

substance like CO2 accumulates in high concentrations inside the cell.In the cell the concentration of CO2 is low as inside the cell.

As there is difference of concentration of CO2 inside and outside the cell.CO2 moves out of the cell(from higher concentration to lower concentration outside).

•Water also follow the rule of diffusion.

The movement of water molecules through plasma membrane is known as Osmosis.

Thus diffusion plays an important role in exchanges of substances
