Elephants typically have 4 sets of teeth at a given time. These are large grinding molars present at the back of the mouth. Elephant uses these teeth to chew their food. When these teeth wears out, they use the front teeth for chewing. In due course of time, new set of teeth at the back is re-generated. It is observed that an elephant can have up to 24 sets of teeth in a lifetime.
