There was a continental drift of tectonic plates from the Indian subcontinent which would shift in the Northern direction and go towards the Asian tectonic plates.  The natural collision of these two tectonic plates were responsible for the formation fthe Himalayan mountains.  2. The ice and snow upon the Himalayan mountains melted downwards in the shape of running water and formed the rivers and delta's in the Northern plains.
