These slopes receive 80-200 inches of rain during the monsoon season. Air from the ocean flows towards the sleep slopes of the Ghats and the hot surface of the land forces more movement of the oceanic air. This effect pushes the cumulonimbus clouds upward, where they settle above the land and produce thunderstorms.
