Answer: Ru, Rh,Pd,Cd and Au

Explanation: Soft bases are those that easily polarizes. Larger anions and neutral molecules of iodide and sulphide ions are good examples of soft bases.

Type of Transition metal ions act as soft bases are-

  • Larger ions as well as highly polarizable ions acts as soft bases (eg. Iodide).

  • Whereas, transition metal with low charge density transition metal is referred to as soft acid (eg. Ag+).

  • Transition metal are normally larger ions that are polarizable. For example, I- and S2- are soft bases.

  • A transition metal is one which is responsible in formation of one or more stable ions which have partially filled d orbitals, as well as the probability of the element itself having incomplete d orbitals. Soft bases carry larger, polarizable donor atoms (eg. P, S, and Cl).
