Answer:

Living a comfortable life is fairly easy. You don’t have to put in much work, you’ll never need to take any risks, and you certainly have the excuse to avoid doing anything you don’t want to do!

That said, here are some simple steps for living a comfortable life.

Step 1: Find a well-paying job that’s not too difficult for you. Don’t worry about pursuing what you like to do, especially not if it’s a difficult field to go into. If you don’t feel complete job satisfaction, comfort yourself with the fact that you’ll be taking home a comfortably large paycheck to pay the mortgage on your comfortable house and comfortably pad your savings account.

Step 2: Make friends who are exactly like you. That way you won’t need to try and figure out what things are like from their perspective, and you can avoid all those annoying debates about religion and politics and other uncomfortable issues like that. You can instead spend your life in an echo chamber of people who will always support your ideas, and you’ll never have to face the uncomfortable prospect of changing the way you think! Even so, make sure not to get too close to these friends. They may start opening up to you about personal stuff, and that can be an uncomfortable situation.

Step 3: Stay in your comfort zone. That phrase includes the word “comfort” for a reason. Going to new places, trying new things, challenging yourself in new ways—none of that is going to be comfortable. Avoid such things at all costs (at least if it’s comfortable to do so).

Step 4: Focus on yourself above all else. You don’t want to give away some of those comfortable savings to a charitable cause, or take time out of your comfortable schedule to help out a friend, or get involved in the uncomfortable work into volunteering. The one exception to this rule is that you’ve got to conform to what others and society expect you to be. Going against said expectations usually isn’t a very comfortable process.

Overall, you’ll never be completely comfortable, but you can get close by keeping your own needs satisfied, avoiding any risk of discomfort, and keeping yourself a respectable distance from people. Sure, you may end up lonely and unfulfilled, but that’s the tradeoff, right?
