No its other way round.. Maharishi Vyas was telling the story and Lord Ganesha was writing it down.. Actually Maharishi Vyas's writing speed and thought process speed didn't match. So he went to Lord Ganesha for help. So Lord Ganesha said yes on condition that he will write it down only if he never has to wait for Maharishi to tell next sentence. So Maharishi Vyas also put a condition that Lord Ganesha will write the sentence down only when he understands it.
