Many European countries like Prussia, Austria as well as England, Holland and Spain tried to invade France during the French Revolution. But the French defended their new republic bravely. They also occupied parts of Spain and Italy and many other neighbouring lands under the leadership of military genius, Napoleon Bonaparte.

Napoleon was elected as the First Consul or the President of French Republic in 1799 after a great military career. He had always achieved his mission with great success inside or outside France.

Here are his few achievements :


1. During the period 1799 to 1804, Napoleon led his soldiers against the enemies of France. Napoleon overthrew the Directory and proclaimed a new Constitution in 1799.

2. In about 1805, he defeated the combined army of Austria and Russia in the Battle of Austerlitz.

3. In about 1810, almost entire Europe was under Napoleon's rule. Napoleon's empire included Portugal, Spain, Holland, France, Italy and a large part of Central Europe.

4. He collected and rearranged the laws of his country. This collection of laws is known as the 'Code of Napoleon'. It became the model for legal system in other European countries.
