Dadabhai Naoroji was elected to theBritish house of commons from the Finsbury Central Constituency in theelections of 1892 by a narrow margin of 3 votes by defeating Fredrick Thomas Penton. Being a subject of theBritish crown (Being a citizen of British India) he was allowed to take part in the election.
