why a small gap is left between the two rails of a railway track ?

in summer the rails expand and if there ia no space in bw them to expand they will collide. with each other and damage themselves so space for expansion is left bw them

Trains tracks have gaps because they expand and contract if they dont haave gap train will met an accident
