The maps are basically drawn with small scale because wide are can't be represented that easily on a small piece of paper. Large scale maps show a smaller amount of area with a greater amount of detail. Small scale maps show a larger geographic area with few details on them. Map scale refers to the ratio between distance on a map and the corresponding distance on the ground. For example, on a 1:100000 scale, 1cm on the map equals 1km on the ground.
