cramps are caused when we do heavy physical activities like running for a long time...during this time our muscles perform anaerobic respiration and due to this lactic acid is formed and gets accumulated in the muscles..this is why we get cramps..

Ans.

Muscle cramps are involuntary muscle contractions that cause significant pain and immobility of muscles after exercise or physical activity. During aerobic respiration oxygen is used for glucose breakdown to produce energy.

During vigorous physical activity there is a lack of sufficient oxygen and muscle cells perform anaerobic respiration for their energy need. It leads to buildup of lactic acid in the muscles that causes muscle cramps.
