decomposition reactions are called the opposite of combination reaction because combination reaction - in this reaction, two or more substances react with each other to form a single substance.
Example :- Cao + H2O -----> Ca(OH)2
whereas in decomposition reaction it's actually the reverse of combination reaction. A single substance breaks to give simpler products.
Example - CaCo3 ------> CaO + CO2
