Optical telescope is located in uninhabited places on mountains because of several reasons.
Optical telescope is placed on the top of the mountain or high altitude places because on the top side of the mountain not only the air is clean also the atmosphere above there is less polluted . Therefore it further leads to give the clear image of celestial orbjects.
As our cities and other ground sources having too much light pollution that further leads to create distortion with astronomical observation.
Our cities and other ground sources having a less atmosphere also a less water vapor, which further leads to refract light in such a way that it cause image distortion.
Hence, it is placed on higher altitude area like mountain where the air is clean and pollution is negligible.
