People protest to tear down dams due to the followig reasons :

1.It degrades the quality of soil by subsequent washing down of top fertile layer

2.It displaces people from their houses

3.It badly effects the ecosystem around it

4. It can create inter state disputes

5. It affects the life of aquatic animals
