why are Southwest monsoon less rainy in Tamilnadu or Madras

Madras doesn't receive much rain during the south-west monsoon, as the south of India (the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala) gets most of its rainfall from the north-east monsoon, from October to December.
