Sugar mills are moving to Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu due to the following purposes:

i) In South India, the pleasant maritime environment can be observed which is free from the consequences of the loo, so there is a prolonged production season.

ii) The factories are positioned near the fields due to which sucrose content does not deteriorate much and the sucrose content of sugarcane is very high in Peninsular India.

Two challenges faced by this industry are;

Low Yield of Sugarcane.

Short crushed season.
