why ATP is known as currency

ATP contains three negatively charged Phosphate groups. When the terminal phosphate group bond is broken, around 30 kJ/mol energy is released. This is highly exotermic, and only a few other molecules (like e.g. creatine phosphate) release more energy.
Even though the released energy is very high, this reaction does not happen on it's own under physiological conditions - or at least very slow - because of the high activation energy. If it would happen by itself, it would be a useless energy carrier, since it would dissociate spontaneously and the released energy would transform to kinetic energy, which means: rising temperature. This would kill the cell.
The key is that proteins catalyse this reaction by slightly bending the phosphate chain and ‘cutting' it with the help of - mostly - a magnesium ion. This leads to a change of the protein structure, instead of thermal vibrations as before, which can be used for movement or catalysis of another reaction.

Hi dear!!

ATP (ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE) IS THE ENERGY CURRENCY BECAUSE ATP contains three negatively charged Phosphate groups. When the terminal phosphate group bond is broken, around 30 kJ/mol energy is released.

THIS ENERGY CAN BE USED FOR VARIOUS LIFE PROCESSES.

ALSO THE ENERGY PRODUCED IN BODY IS STORED AS ATP SO THAT IT CAN BE USED WHEN NEEDED.

hope this helps

good luck
