Brass is alloy of copper and zinc
For a compound to exist the molecules combine in definite proportion in a chemical bond.
But in brass the copper and zinc are not bonded in definite proportion and just coexist
so it is not a compound but a mixture

Brass is a mixture since it doesnt contain bonds.. While compounds are chemically bonded together
