Explanation:
Buddhism is the fifth-largest religion in India, with 0.7% of the population identifying themselves as Buddhists, that accounts for 8.44 million Buddhists in India[3] as of 2011 National Census of India.[1] Although unofficial estimates suggest up to 50 to 60 million Buddhists in India.[4] Buddhism is an ancient Indian religion, which arose in and around the ancient Kingdom of Magadha (now in Bihar, India), and is based on the teachings of the Buddha[note 1] who was deemed a "Buddha" ("Awakened One"[6]). Buddhism spread outside of Magadha starting in the Buddha's lifetime.
