Valency of Oxygen is 2 hence to obtain its nearest noble gas config. it need a total of 8 electrons in its outer most orbit.
Since it has already 6 electrons in its outermost orbit, it needs two more to fill up its remaining places
Hence oxygen cant form a triple bond because it can only take in 2 extra electrons from its surroundings,
