Ans: The atomic number of carbon is 6 which means that a neutral atom of carbon contain 6 electron so electronic configuration of carbon is 2, 4 .

Since a carbon atom has 4 electrons in outermost shell so it should either lose 4 electrons or gain 4 electrons to achieve the inert gas electron configuration and become stable .

So, carbon forms covalent bond

HIII.....

GOOD MORNING:-)

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER:--------

THIS IS BECAUSE IN ITS VALENCE SHELL THERE ARE 4 ELECTRONS AND IT'S REALLY SOMEWHAT HARD TO LOSE OR GAIN THE ELECTRONS.

SO, CARBON CHOOSES TO SHARE ITS ELECTRONS.

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.....
