Civil War led in Sri Lanka due to the policy of majoritarianism followed by Sinhalese. In Sri Lanka there are two major ethnic religious groups i.e. Sinhala and Tamil. Also there are two types of Tamil i.e. Sri Lankan Tamil and Indian Tamil. Sinhalese first tried helping Tamilians by giving them free education, free jobs ( point is providing good to them) but later they forced them to convert into Sinhala. This force by Sinhalese on Tamilians led to civil War in Sri Lanka !
