Hey,
Alexander the Great couldn't continue his journey to conquer India because he was stopped by King Porus for quite a sometime before Porus was defeated in the hands of Alexander. According to the legend,Alexandar defeated Porus but it was what the Europeans recorded. Before he could continue his conquest he was afflicted with a mysterious death that landed him on death bed. After his eventual death his kingdom was split among his Army generals.
I hope it helps you!!!

Two reasons-
(a) His army was tired after ten years of continous rule, also hot climate made them weary and they refused to fight further
(b) They heard about military might of Nandas who were ruling Ganga river region near Magadha , and were afraid of fighting with them. So they did not cross beas river.
