Covalent compounds are those compounds that are formed by sharing electrons between them. They don't have actual electrons to lose or gain.
Since in reactions electron lose or gain decides the rate of reaction so the covalent compounds are less reactive

Heya user,
There exists four kinds of bonds[ two of which are subject to the second type ] in which the basic two among chemicals are : - - >
( i ) ---> Ionic Bond
( ii ) --> Covalent Bond
Now,
Ionic Bond involves transfer of electrons where one Element gets electronegative or negatively charged and the other positively charged. Since the opposite charges attract, this is the reason why these Ions stick together to form Ionic Bonds --> thus, they are comparatively less stable...
On the other hand, Covalent Bond involves sharing of electrons where the octet of both the elements are satisfied, thus, establishing a strong bond between the elements involved.... Also, the strong bond or strong inter-molecular forces result to Hard time breaking these bonds during a reaction, and so COVALENT BONDS are less reactive
