The current is a fundamental quantity because it doesn't depend upon any other quantity for their measurements. So the current is measured in Ampere (A)
While the quantities which are depend on two or more fundamental quantity is called derived quantities..e.g. Area of rectangle is measured in m^2

vikas1681: then why charge is not an fundamental unit ????
shrikant7: Electric charge is a derived units because it depends upon current flowing through conductor and time taken

hey dear
it is because the current is the reaction of flowing of charge and charge..
and it also don't depends upon other quantity...
