After the cold blooded assasination of Julius Caesar, Antony
is in a great quandary. He bemoans the fact that now his reputation or position
is in jeopardy.
1. Here credit refers to his reputation, reliability or
position. People may think him to be a coward or a flatterer. His position
rests on a slippery ground because he has befriended the conspirators.
2. He may be considered a coward because he did not have the
courage to support the just and did not take the side of Caesar. People may
think that he is a flatterer because he shook hands with the conspirators.
3. After hearing this, the conspirators are annoyed. They
question Antony regarding his deal with them.
