Digvijay was  the conquest territories and Land mainly Kalinga as it was the only known expedition of Ashoka to form it a part of the Mauryan Empire he

left the policy of digvijya because Ashok was a violent emperor till the kalinga war. They used to call him Chandashok..the ruthless Ashok. The deaths of the Kalinga war which happened on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar changed him completely.

Because The kalinga war had a profound effect on the policies and personality of ashoka. the death and destruction caused by the kalinga war brought about a great change in the personal and political life of ashoka. therefore he abandoned the policy of "conquest by force" ( bherigosha)and ambition of "victory in all directions" (Digvijay)and embraced the policy of religion(Dhammagosha)
