Why did Canterville ghost feel humiliated ?

Both human and ghosts have one thing common that is they feel humiliated.When the man works very hard to create a wonder and yet if it does not work then he feels humiliated.When we are not getting praised by any one to our work we feels humiliated.So does ghosts.When ghost tried his best to frighten the otis family but was nkt successful then he felt humiliated.
