in 1932 working committee of the Congress met at Sabarmati Ashram and passed resolution to hold civil disobedience under the leadership of Gandhiji Gandhiji wrote a letter to the viceroy demanding 11 points in case the government does not accept this demand the people would reject the pain tax and also start civil disobedience movement all over India as the viceroy rejected the letter declared on March 12 1930 that he would walk with follow up to Dandi The coastal area of Gujarat Gandhiji cover 375 km on foot and reached Dandi he broke the lock by holding a fistful salt without paying the tax which the British had laid on salt this was Gandhiji's first Satyagraha in India which was also known as Salt Satyagraha and thousands of people participated in salt Satyagraha
