Gaston found it interesting to buy the villa that he had been finding absolutely worth less because, in the latter part of the chapter, with the entry of Mrs Al Smith, things changed.
She considered Gaston as the owner of the house and bought the villa in 3000 francs. Whereas Juliette only demanded 2000 francs for the house. Thus Gaston bought the villa because he had already made a gain of a thousand francs.
