Why did indo-china comprise the modern countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia?

Indo China was basically a set of 3 countries which was under the shadow of China..

After its independence the indo-china divided into Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia..

these countries have cultural influences from both China and India that is why indo China comprise of vietnam,Laos and combodia
