Answer: Although Patol Babu did not like to act in the insignificant role offered to him, yet he decided to do it because he remembered his mentor, Gogon Pakrashi’s words. He had taught him no role was small or big. It was the actor who made an insignificant role significant with his acting. So, he decided to give best to the small role.

In his youth, Patol Babu was an acclaimed actor. People came from far and wide to see his acting in plays put up by the club in his neighbourhood. It was when he used to live at Kanchrapara. He worked in a railway factory; he had time then.

In 1934 he got a job of clerical post with Hudson and Kimberley, in Calcutta. He then shifted to Calcutta. He had to give up his acting career on stage also.
