the people in olden days used the rivers and seas as a mode of travel as they calculated that when they traveled overland they used bullock carts but it took too much time and too much horse feed thus the rivers were both fast and cheap
but the main drawback of this is that they could not travel at all times of the year (the rivers might dry up of flood) there might have been conjestion of vessels in the narrow river
