Brahmanas were the dominant religion of that period as because they conducted Yajnas those were very expensive and for worshipping god the Brahmanas used a language sanskrit which the common people cannot understand .... so they were known as the most dominant religion they used their mental tricks and brainwashed the common people thoughts and made depressing rules for the society...
