Sepoys in India in British era dont travel through sea because at that time it was the culture in India that no body will pass through the sea. (Now it can be called Myth) . If he do so than after death his soul will go into hell.

Reason behind this was that Indians has one of the oldest civilization in the world. If we talk about the geography of the India tha In North there is Great Himalayas, in South there was a huge sea, In East there was Bay of Bengal and In West there was Thar desert. So at the strting of the civilization they were kept closed inside the boundaries made by nature. Primarily they think that we will go to hell after death if we cross all those walls of nature but as time passes this thing was only bounded to sea. And now adays Indian army can go anywhere anytime.

Hope this helps you friend
