William Jones had to study ancient Inidan literature as he respected the culture and heritage immenesely and was eager to learn the various philosophies, laws and ideologogies of the Indian culture and undersand the differences and similarities between Hindus and Muslims.
He wanted to know and study the sacred laws and legal text for both the cultures which were set up in the ancient period in the hope that they would form the basis of developement for the present and future India.
